Advanced Driving Course

This is our second level course leading on from our Drive-to-Survive defensive driving program. It is also a full day course (8.30am registration, 9am start - finish 4.30pm) and participants use their own vehicles with the instructor ratio never more than 1:10.

The Advanced Driving course builds on the lessons and awareness introduced at the Drive-to Arrive course but activities are conducted at higher speeds. The amount of driving time is increased as is the level of intensity of the tuition provided.

This course is also great fun with some enjoyable short 'competition' activities to see how you put the theory into practice throughout the day.

Some of the key points covered are :

• Experience emergency avoidance actions at highway speeds.
• Become more aware of any electronic features fitted to your vehicle such as ABS brakes, Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control programs.
• Learn about the importance of 'vision' in all driving situations.
• Identify and practice choosing the correct 'line' when cornering.
• Develop a better awareness of driver & vehicle reactions and responses.
• Improve your judgement skills.
• Great benefits to long distance drivers.
• Understand how to control skids should they occur, minimizing damage & injury.

As with the Drive-to-Arrive course there are no pass or fail tests during the course and each participant receives a certificate at the completion of the day.

The Advanced Driving course is an important second step for people to become better and safer drivers at speeds up to highway maximums. It is also great preparation for Car Club track activities or our next level High Performance course.

* It is recommended for safety reasons that a John Bowe Driving Drive to Arrive course (or similar) should be completed before the Advanced Driving course can be undertaken.

We recommend that you check (or have checked for you) the following items before attending the course to be sure that your car is in good roadworthy condition.

Course Preparation Check-list;

1. Tyres: Check that you have adequate tread levels and check your tyre pressures - Increase your tyre pressures 4-6 psi above manufacturers recommendations. Wheel trims that may fall off should be removed and metal valve caps are recommended.
2. Fluid Levels: Check that you have adequate fluid levels - oil, radiator, fuel, etc.
3. Loose Objects: Please remove any unnecessary loose objects from your car, including items from the boot.
4. Spectators: The Advanced Driving course is not a spectator event. For safety and insurance reasons no spectators are allowed, this includes onlookers, children, pets, etc.
5. Clothing: You will be spending some time outside of your vehicle. Please bring appropriate clothing for the conditions including;
6. Summer: sunhat, sunscreen, insect repelant, drinking water.
7. Winter: Warm clothing, a beanie or scarf, water/wind proof jacket, golf sized umbrella.

What To Expect

The Advanced Driving course is designed to push the limits of both the driver and the vehicle. Our instructors will help you to negotiate the driving activities throughout the day but you can take it at your own pace. You will find that the course will reinforce the concepts introduced during the Drive to Arrive defensive driving course and you will have a great time enjoying your car in a controlled environment with professional tuition.

The activities of the Advanced Driving course are conducted at higher speeds than the Drive to Arrive course and is therefore an important second step in people becoming better and safer drivers at speeds up to highway maximums. As such it is great training for drivers who regularly travel long distances.

The Advanced Driving course is a very useful refresher course for people who have undertaken the Drive to Arrive course and a great progression for those wanting to continue to improve the skills and awareness introduced during the Drive to Arrive course.

The Advanced Driving course is also a great preparation for people wanting to participate in either Car Club activities or our High Performance circuit training. Drivers of all ages and driving experience will benefit from the small group sizes and close tuition from professional instructors.
